A New Partnership

We are proud to announce the partnership between the Kaeli Kramer Foundation and Family Residences and Essential Enterprises (FREE). Our Humane Education and Life Skills program for young adults began in September at the Holtsville Ecology Center. For our first few meetings, Kellei Burke, Director of Animals Care, took participants for a behind the scenes look at the Ecology Center and the animals who call this wonderful refuge their home. Kellie shared stories about the animals’ rescue and healing, as well as how they adapted to a domesticated life. After learning much about the animals we went into the kitchen to help prepare dinner for the bears, the deer and the cows. We washed, chopped and peeled a bounty of fruits and veggies for the animals. We prepared a delicious salad for our lunch with Miss Piggy enjoying the leftovers. The enthusiastic participants left with new knowledge and are looking forward to many new learning experiences in the coming months. The Holtsville Ecology Site, home to so many animals including the Kaeli Kramer Foundation’s mustangs Callie and Valor, as well as our Humane Education programs, is in danger of closing. Please come attend the meetings and rallies as listed below to show your support for the continued operation of this most valued Town of Brookhaven facility.
