A Trip to Garden of Eve Organic Farm

Our first field trip of the year, with Family Residences and Essential Enterprises (FREE) students, was to the Garden of Eve organic farm in Aquebogue. On their 50 acres, the farmers raise many varieties of vegetables, fruits, flowers and animals, all organically. Our first stop was a tour of the entire farm with Winnie, one of the farmers. We smelled the lush lavender and beautiful flowers and walked through the fields. The farm is home to 1000 chickens who live humanely in a huge field. While we were meeting the chickens one laid an egg right in front of us. We picked some colorful rainbow Swiss chard, fresh kale and beautiful collard greens. Then it was on to the kitchen to cook our just picked veggies. We all helped Winnie prepare a very delicious and healthy vegetarian lunch. Everything tasted so fresh !! Even the animals enjoyed a treat as we fed them some of the greens we picked. It was a perfect day on the farm. Thank you to Winnie and the staff at Garden of Eve for a wonderful day.
