Mustangs Move to Their New Home at the Holtsville Ecology Center

Our first two rescued mustangs, Callie and Valor, have moved to their beautiful new home at the Holtsville Wildlife and Ecology Center , where they serve not only as emissaries for our foundation but for all of America’s wild horses. At the Ecology Center, they will engage in educational programs and serve to promote nationwide efforts to allow wild horses to remain free in their natural habitats.

On December 16, 2009, Superintendent John Rouse presided at a dedication ceremony to mark this exciting event. With Callie in the spotlight, electing to remain at his side at the podium, while shy Valor remained far from the crowd grazing , Mr. Rouse spoke of Kaeli’s tragic passing , her parents’ firm resolve to carry on the work she was meant to do in the field of animal rescue and the community’s wish to pay her tribute. The numerous builders and craftsmen who played such a pivotal role in erecting our mustangs’ beautiful new home were on hand at the ceremony and were applauded for their kind and generous efforts . And of course we marked the occasion by thanking the loving staff at the Ecology Center who have made this such a seamless transition for these once wild horses. Callie and Valor could not have asked for a more idyllic home to carry out their mission of educating people about the plight of the wild mustangs.

We are planning a gala “Mustang Day” in early June for all to attend at the Ecology Center , where we will plan to have a variety of programs and activities for both children and adults to enjoy. We hope to see you then and, of course, will keep you updated on the website as the details of this event unfold.

With the sunlight filtering in rays through fluffy clouds, it is easy to feel the spirit of Kaeli all around the beautiful new home of Callie and Valor. The Town of Brookhaven and all the volunteers created a magnificant home for the mustangs who represent the work, love, and ideals of Kaeli. On Mustang Day, yesterday, I could feel Kaeli’s spirit smiling down on all of us.
This wonderful tribute is fitting; for it shows us that all of life is a precious gift meant to be nurtured, protected, and treated with love. God bless you Kaeli.
